NEW DELHI: A three-day tourism and cultural festival depicting age-old traditions of Kargil region was inaugurated in the border area, officials said here today.

The festival titled Kargil Tourism Festival-998242; was inaugurated at Fokar, 40-km from Kargil by Deputy Commissioner Shalin Kabra last evening. The festival is being organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development JKTDC.

Cop among 6 held for running brothelNEW DELHI: Six persons including a policeman were arrested for allegedly running a brothel in North West Delhi, police said today. Acting on a tip off, anti-extortioncell of crime branch sent a decoy customer to a flat on Friday to finalise a deal8217; with a woman and after the deal was struck a raiding party arrested Neelam and three other girls.

Two persons including constable driver in the police control room Naresh Kumar was also arrested from the flat, police added.

During interrogation, Neelam revealed that she was running the brothel for last seven months and Naresh used to assist her, police added. The victims belonged to a family of a scavenger, attached to the Surat Municipal Corporation.

Gujarat card8217; for non resident Gujaratis

GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat Government has decided to issue a multi-purpose Gujarat card8217; to Gujarati families settled abroad. According to an official release here yesterday the card would be their link to their native land. Chief Minister Kesubhai Patel said at a high level meeting yesterday that under the proposed project a database of information about the Gujaratis settled in various countries would be prepared andmade available through a web-site that would be launched soon.

International Year of Culture of Peace to be launched

NEW DELHI: The International Year of the Culture of Peace 8212; 2000 AD 8212; will be launched in India on September 14 at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi, as part of a global movement to transform war and violence to peace.

Being observed on the initiative of UNESCO, the year will be marked by symposia, seminars and other events for building the culture of peace and non-violence. An all-party group of Parliamentarians for peace will be formed in the forthcoming Parliament as a joint effort for peace and harmony. The aim would be to strengthen the United Nations as a guardian of global peace and to see that the Non-Aligned Movement gains further momentum.
