State notifies PCMC on plastic bag ban

PUNE, Jan 19: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has received a notification from the State Government banning the manufacture of plastic bags with a thickness of less than 20 microns quot;as they posed serious danger to the environment and animalsquot;.

The State Government has invited suggestions and objections regarding the notification from plastic manufacturers. The suggestions are to be sent to the environment division of the state government, Mantrayalaya, Mumbai 32 before January 23. There is also a ban on manufacture of plastic bags with a thickness of 25 microns made out of old plastic material. The manufacturers have been asked to use only the prescribed raw material and in their natural colours approved by the competent authorities.
