The Vadodara police on Thursday arrested the key accused in the Star Ruby case in which three people were killed in a robbery attempt.
The case was solved long ago, but Bhala Pandor, a key accused, absconded soon after. Pandor was the person who had actually worked as a contract killer and had hired four others to carry out the heist.
According to a press note issued by the city police, Pandor was nabbed from near the Jodhpur village of Sehra taluka in the Panchmahals district on Thursday.
8220;We were tipped off about Pandor8217;s whereabouts by informers. He was changing names and locations since the last two years, and we finally nabbed him from the State Transport bus depot in Jodhpur. We will produce him before the court on Friday and seek his remand. The case has been solved, but we will still learn about the missing links,8221; said Special Operations Group SOG Sub-Inspector H M Alsika.
It was Pandor who had taken money from kingpin Jayanti Pateliya to kill Mihir Thakkar, Darshan Thakkar and Balkrushna Patel, who were carrying the ruby.
The ruby was owned by one Sameer Jagot of Vadodara and was being taken to Jaipur for evaluation, when Pandor and his four accomplices killed the three and buried their bodies.
While the police arrested Pateliya, Pandor gave the slip and was reported absconding ever since. Interestingly, the actual price of the ruby remained undecided, as no agency could ascertain it.
