The tinkle of the anklets and the strains of the ragas again waft in winter air, as the annual Parampara festival begins in the Capital. After a Kuchipudi performance by Raja and Radha Reddy, the opening day saw Hindustani vocal by Ashwini Bhide, who brought with her the intricacies of the Jaipur Atrauli gharana. On Saturday, Odissi dancer and disciple of Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra, Aruna Mohanty, will perform. This will be followed by Carnatic recital by Sudha Raghunathan 8212; the Padma Shri winner is known to weave rich musical tapestries with her voice. Anita Ratnam and her troupe will perform contemporary dance on Sunday, to be followed by Delhi band Advaita that plays with a strong influence of Hindustani classical music with heavy electronic soundscapes.
