JANUARY 22: The State Government has reduced sales tax ST on an additional 22 commodities, as per demands of traders in the State. The changes in rates in these 22 commodities will come into force from January 22.

Mathuraprasad Goyal, president, Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce NVCC said petroleum products excluding motor spirit and aviation turbine fuel has been reduced to 13 per cent from the 20 per cent recommended earlier.

The sales tax on industrial inputs has been slashed to four per cent. Relief has also been provided to earthen roofing tiles, musical instruments like tabla, harmonium, etc. The tax on dry fruits has been reduced to four per cent from 12 per cent. On agricultural plastic pipes the tax has been reduced from 12 per cent to eight per cent and on tractors and trailers the sales tax has been reduced from 8 per cent to four per cent.

Other items on which sales tax has been reduced are: dyes of all types from 8 to 4, plastic articles like bags, buckets, mugs etc 12 to 8, plastic raincoats 12 to 8, plastic jewellery boxes 12 to 8, aquatic feed 4 to zero per cent, tamarind 4 to zero per cent, specified non-conventional energy devices 4 to zero per cent, non-electronic musical instrument 12 to 8, cast iron casting, excluding finished articles 8 to 4, ferro alloys and super alloys 8 to 4, aluminium and zinc 8 to 4, sewing thread 8 to 4, kerosene sold for household purpose through public distribution system 4 to zero per cent and petroleum jelly and waxes 20 13.

The government has already announced reduction in sales tax on pasteurised milk, branded bread, processed salt, charcoal and badami charcoal, poultry feed, cattle feed, garlic, ginger, agricultural implements, mangalsutra costing less than Rs 5,000, fire wood, chillies and turmeric. The sales tax on computers and electronic parts will be 4 per cent, the press note added.
