
CHANDIGARH, Jan 7: Jai Bhagwan alias Bhanu and his brother Mahinder Pal, who were arrested here yesterday for their alleged involvement in the sale of adulterated mustard oil were today remanded to police custody till January 11 by UT Sub Judge Senior Division B.C. Gupta.
Arguing on the application, seeking police remand for the accused, the prosecution stated that the two were involved in the manufacture of spurious articles of food, spices and oil and also sale of the same to dealers and retailers.
It was stated that the printing press, where fake labels were being prepared was still to be traced and the vehicle which the accused used to sell spurious articles was also to be recovered.
The prosecution added that the police needed time to interrogate the accused on the whereabouts of some other people involved in the racket.
Observing that the allegations against the accused were of a serious nature, the judge remanded them to police custody for four days.
The duo was arrested yesterday from the Grain Market under Sections 420, 272, 273, 482, 487, 120-B of the IPC and Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act.They will now be produced before the court on January 11.
