A major tragedy was averted when a speeding bus rammed into a car on the National Highway-21 in Kharar on Friday.
While the car driver Sumeer Sharma, in his mid-20s and a resident of Kharar, was seriously injured, around a dozen bus passengers sustained minor injuries as both the vehicles were badly damaged in the mishap.
According to information, the accident took place around 7.30 am when a private bus coming from Mohali, rammed into an Esteem, which entered the highway from a link road leading to the police station.
The impact of the accident was so strong that the bus dragged the car to a nearby field where the mangled remains of both the vehicles finally settled.
The seriously injured car driver was rushed to the PGI in Chandigarh, where he is struggling for life while the injured bus passengers were taken to a private clinic for first-aid. It was alleged that despite repeated calls, no ambulance was made available from the Kharar Civil Hospital to ferry the car driver to the PGI. The hospital authorities, however, expressed ignorance over the matter.
