
Call of the Holy Spirit
In the year of the Holy Spirit, the Pune service team has organised an All Pune Pentecost Tridumm8217; as a part of the preparations of the feast of the Pentecost, at St Anne8217;s High School grounds from May 29 to 31. The theme of the convention will be, Be filled with the Holy Spirit8217; based on Ephesians 5:18b. This will provide the faithful in the city to demonstrate the unity of the Holy Spirit.
Steve Cochrane, directors of the Youth With A Mission YWAM and Trevor Lewis, leader of the Jeevan Jal and Jeevan Asha Ministries, and Bishop Valerian D8217;souza, bishop of the Diocese of Pune will hold discussions during the programme. The programme during the three-day convention has been scheduled daily from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. For the benefit of the participants, buses have been arranged to the venue and will be dropped back home after the celebration.
The organisers have also made provisions in case the monsoons hit the city before the programme commences. In that case the programmes will be held atGulati Hall of St Vincent8217;s High school during the day.
Fond farewell
Fr Diego Nunes, rector and parish priest was bid a fond farewell by the parishioners of the Sacred Heart Church held at the Fr Maschio Hall of Don Bosco High school, Yerwada on May 24. Fr Diego served the parish for nine years by guiding the parishioners in various spiritual activities. Fr Diego has been to United States of America for a course in spirituality after which he was assigned as assistant parish priest and the youth director at the Sacred Heart parish for three years. Undertaking a number of projects during his tenure, Fr Diego ensured that a number of facilities were provided for the kids at the youth centre. He was responsible for the basketball court, the Fr Maschio Hall, statues of Don Bosco with his boys8216; and Pieta8217;. During the farewell function the the children presented a number of song and dance items.
Saving the language
The 92nd foundation day of the Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad was held on May 27 at the Patrakar Bhawan. The sansthan which, over the years, has been trying to safeguard the interests of Marathi literature and has done commendable work in this field. Speaking at the function, the president of the Parishad, Rajendra Banhatti, lamented that the State government had ignored Marathi literature for long. Berating the government, he said that though the government8217;s official position was to popularise the language, they had refused to recognise the examination conducted by the Parishad. Renowned litterateur B D Kher was felicitated at the function and Dr Baba Kalgutkar was presented the Bhimrao Kulkarni award. President of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, D M Miradsar was also present at the function.

The eleventh death anniversary of Late Pankunwarbai Firodia will be observed on June 2. A function will be organised in which renowned intellectual and thinker Dr A H Salunke will speak on Dev Danav Nare Nirmile8217;. The podium will be chaired by well-known writer Kavivarya Vasant Bapat. The function will be held at the Tilak Smarak Mandir at 6.30 pm.
Summertime fun
The Don Bosco summer camp concluded at the Sacred Heart parish complex and the Don Bosco High School grounds, Yerwada on May 24. The club is under the patronage of the Salesian society founded by St Don Bosco, Friend of the Youth8217;. The camp aimed at developing the talents and the leadership qualities of the kids in the neighbourhood, particularly the poor. The activities allowed for healthy interaction among the kids, bringing out their hidden talents in games, music, dance. Various contests were also held as the children participated in drawing, singing, dancing, fancy dress, mime beat, collage making, cooking, rangoli among others. The highlights of the camp were the fete games along with the treks and camp fires held. The camp had a total number of 200 kids and proved to be a gala time for the kids.
