New Delhi, November 20: It’s official now. The National Football League (NFL), which was scheduled to kick-off on November 25, has been postponed. Addressing a media conference here on Monday, All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi said the NFL will be re-scheduled at the AIFF’s emergency meeting on November 26 here.

‘‘NFL will continue with the same teams and will be played under the same format,’’ said Dasmunshi. But he did not miss the opportunity to come down heavily on those making attempts to form a parallel body and challenge AIFF’s authority.ÿ‘‘Football is not a Kerry Packer’s circus.

So long as I am in office there won’t be any parallel League or an association,’’ asserted Dasmunshi, even as he overtly hinted at the newly-formed Indian Premier Football Association (IPFA).ÿNine clubs Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Mohammedan Sporting, Mahindra United, Churchill Brothers, Salgaocar SC, FC Kochin, JCT and Tollygunje Agragami formed the nucleus of IPFA which is headed by liqour baron Vijay Mallya.

In fact, IPFA had threatened to conduct the League on a professional way if their demands were not met by AIFF.

However, Dasmunshi claimed that under FIFA, AFC rules there is no place for any parallel body. ‘‘Those who are thinking or dreaming of challenging AIFF’s authority are living in their own make-believe world,’’ Dasmunshi said in a sarcastic tone.

The AIFF president, who had a secound-round talk with Mallya on Monday, added that their grievances both in terms of revenue sharing and resource mobilisation would be discussed on Sunday, adding that ‘‘the IPFA had no intention of challenging the might of AIFF.’’

Interestingly, however, it still remains unclear why the IPFA had to launch a war against the parent body only a couple of days before and, all of a sudden, beat a hasty retreat ?
