MUMBAI, APRIL 23: Dr Mam Ramaswamy owned bay gelding Smart Chiftan, hailing from the yard of trainer Karan Singh claimed, without being fully stretched, The McDowell Indian St Leger,2800 metres, the last and the longest classic of the current Mumbai season run on Sunday at Mahalakshmi.

The great son of Placerville out of Sunning was first time entrusted to jockey KPG Appu who discharged his obligation with utmost perfection. Smart Chieftan joined the 8216;club of triple crown winners. It was his 10th consecutive triumph out of 12 outings.
