CHANDIGARH, May 25: An office-bearer of the local youth wing of the Samajwadi Janata Party SJP was allegedly beaten up by two police officials at the Sector 11 police station today.

According to SJP supporters, the president of the youth wing, Maninder Singh Lovely was summoned by the police regarding some dispute with another party.A case had been registered by some persons in the Sector 11 police station against Lovely yesterday, following an altercation in Sector 15.

SJP supporters allege that Lovely was abused and physically assaulted by Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh and Assistant Sub- Inspector Ashwani Singh.

They add that Lovely sustained some injuries and received 6-7 stitches on his head.

Meanwhile, the local SJP president, Harmohan Singh Dhawan, has demanded that a case be registered against the two police officials and action be taken against them.

Senior Superintendent of Police C. S. R. Reddy was not available for comment.
