Dismissing Pakistan’s claims on having no control over movement of terrorists, External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha suggested a joint mechanism to monitor the situation which includes ‘‘intelligence sharing’’.
In an informal chat with journalists on Friday evening, Sinha dismissed Islamabad’s claims on the grounds that ‘‘it is not possible that there is no knowledge. Terrorists move around Pakistan, go into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and then cross over to this side.’’
Stating that cross-border terrorism was still continuing, Sinha offered a ‘‘intelligence sharing’’ mechanism to curb it. ‘‘If, as they (Pakistan) claim, these things are happening outside their control, then they should have no problem in agreeing to cooperate with us,’’ he said.
Sinha welcomed reports of Islamabad curbing the movement of Hizbul Mujahideen cadre and their support networks. According to him, Islamabad was in a position to dismantle terrorist launch pads as well as their communication networks.
