Unseeded Russian Yaroslava Shvedova won her first WTA tour title on Sunday after defeating Italian top seed and last year8217;s winner Mara Santangelo 6-4, 6-4 in the final. The Russian began cautiously before slowly gaining in confidence, even as the Italian was fighting to stay in the game.

The teenager was up to her task and made her opponent into committing several unforced errors. Shvedova made most of the occasion to take the first set at 6-4. In the second, the Russian kept her cool even as the Italian seemed to stage a comeback. But it was too late in the day for her to do that.

Earlier in the day, the top-seeded Taipei duo of Y-J Chan and C J Chuang came back after a first set loss to Taipei8217;s S-W Hsieh and Russian Alla Kudryavtseva to win the title, 6-7, 6-2, 11-9.
