The engine and 11 bogies of the Rajgir-New Delhi Shramjeevi Express derailed near Sohsarai in Bihar’s Nalanda district this morning, but all passengers were safe.

East Central Railway chief spokesman A K Chandra said that the train coming from Rajgir suddenly derailed between Biharsharif and Bena stations.

The cause of the derailment was not immediately known, Chandra said, adding an accident relief train has been sent from Danapur for providing succour to the stranded passengers.

Since the train was moving at a very slow speed, there was no casualty.

Traffic on Bakhtiyarpur-Rajgir single-line section was paralysed and it would take time for repairing the track, Divisional Railway Manager of Danapur division B D Garg said.

The passengers of the Shramjeevi Express were being brought to Bakhtiarpur station by a special train that has been sent from Patna, Garg said.

“We are also making arrangements for food and drinking water for the stranded passengers,” he said, adding cranes have been sent to the spot to lift the bogies.
