Maharashtra suffers setback
Defending champions Maharashtra have been weakened by the absence of last year’s triumphant team members Manish Choitrani and Niraj Shirgaonkar for the Inter-State Squash Championship to be held at Delhi from December 6-12. Choitrani is not available because of personal reasons while Shirgaonkar has injured his back, the State Squash Association’s secretary Mahendra Agarwal told PTI here on Friday. The team: Amit Pal Kohli (captain),Saket Walia, Amit Chinai, Mihir Kapoor, Anshul Manchanda and Santosh More. Coach-cum-manager: Rahmat Khan .
Saamna Trophy from January 4 The second edition of the under-14 state-level cricket tournament for the Saamna Trophy will get under way at various city grounds from January 4. The 6-day limited-overs tournament will feature eight teams drawn in two groups, informed Sanjay Raut, executive editor, Dainik Saamna while addressing newspersons last night. Group A comprises Mumbai A, Thane, Nashik and Konkan whileGroup B consists of defending champions Pune, Mumbai B, Vidarbha and Sambhaji Nagar. The top two teams from each group will then advance to the semi-finals to be followed by the summit clash.
