Indian grapplers win five medals
Indian grapplers claimed five medals 8212; two silver and three bronzes 8212; in the just concluded Junior Asian Championship in Kazakhstan. India was represented by 16 wrestlers at the meet which was held from June 14 to 20. The Indians won all their medals in the freestyle category. S.Tomer 60 kg and Sandeep Rathi over 100 kg won the silvers while Manoj Kumar 52 kg, Ramesh Kumar 65 kg and Rajiv Tomar 90 kg bagged a bronze each. Sanjay Kumar 56 kg, Sandeep 70 kg and Anuj 76 kg finished fourth. Satyender Dalal was placed fifth in the 83 kg. India finished third in the freestyle competition. Of the 16 grapplers, ten participated in freestyle and six in greco roman category.

Delhi Police in final
Delhi Police C.U defeated AGR Group, Paschim Vihar by 73 runs to enter the final of the second P.S.Sabharwal Memorial Challenge Cup Cricket Tournament at the GGHS School, West Patel Nagar.

Delhi Police C.U: 211 for 9 in 30 overs Rajesh Tyagi 45, Ravinder Bist 34, K.S.Rana 27, Surinder Dayma 3 for 34, Sant Ram 2 for 34.

AGR Group, Paschim Vihar 137 in 24 overs: Rodney Charles 55, Amit Sharma 22, Parmod Bhatti 3 for 15, Ajit 3 for 27, Rakesh 2 for 34.

Junior cricket
The second P.S.Sabharwal Memorial Junior under-15 Challenge Cup Cricket Tournament will be held from June 26, Entries close with tournament secretary Anil Batra on June 24.Phone 5753824/5781456.

Federation Cup Athletics
The fourth Federation Cup athletic meet will be held in Chennai from July 1 to 3. Amateur Athletic Federation of India AAFI secretary Lalit Bhanot said that this meet will also be considered as selection trials for the national team for the Asian Championship to be held at Fukuoka Japan from July 18 to 22. He said all the events, except marathon and 50 km walk, will be held in the meet.

Bench Press meet
The third open Delhi State Bench Press Championships will be held at the Hansraj Model School, Punjabi Bagh from June 27. This will also serve as the selection trials for the National Championships to be held at Chindwara on July 11 and 12.

DDCA table tennis
The Delhi and District Cricket Association is organising a table tennis tournament from July 15 for its members at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground. Entries may be sent to K.K.Puri or N.K.Lakhotia between July 1 and 13.

Vipul hits ton
Maharaja Agarsen Cricket Academy B8217; team defeated its C8217; team by 15 runs in the Maharaja Agarsen Cricket League at the Rohini sports complex ground.MACA B8217;: 225 for 4 in 35 overs Vipul Gupta 107, Shiv Malhotra 65, Kamal Baniwal 31, Surendra Singh Malik 2 for 34.

MACA C8217;: 210 in 32 overs Surendra Singh Malik 61, Sanjay Oberoi 56, Pradeep Kathpal 34, Vipul Gupta 4 for 44, Shiv Malhotra 3 for 37, Sumit Gopal 2 for 42.

Sudhir slams century
New Delhi Municipal Committee defeated Central Bank of India by 35 runs in the Wonder Trophy Cricket Tournament at the Talkatora ground. Sudhir Sidhu scored 100 runs for NDMC.

NDMC: 269 in 35 overs Sudhir Sidhu 100, Ashok Lamba 53, Raman 25, Tek Chand 4 for 49.

Ceentral Bank of India: 235 for 6 in 35 overs Nitin Goel 74 n.o, Bantoo Singh 46, Ranvir Singh 26, Vikas Chowdhary 21, Raman 2 for 36, Surender 2 for 41.

Rajeev unbeaten
A fine unbeaten 81 by Rajeev Sharma helped Keshav Puram club beat Three Stars club by eight wickets and enter the final of the President8217;s Estate Challenge Cup at the PBG ground.

Three Star c.c: 190 in 34.5 overs Vikas 72, Gaurav 29, Deepak Bahl 27, Rajeev Pawar 3 for 30, Zeeshan Mohd 3 for 26, Prabhat Raj 2 for 28, Mukesh Saini 2 for 16.

Keshav Puram c.c: 196 for 2 in 27.3 overs Rajeev Sharma 81 n.o, Kirpal Singh 51, Hitesh Sharma 43 n.o, Javed 2 for 31.

J.S. Bawa dead
Well-known sportsman of yesteryears, Bawa Jaswant Singh died here early this morning following a cardic arrest. Bawa Jaswant Singh, 75, is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. The grand old man of Delhi8217;s sports, Bawa Jaswant Singh had the distinction of leading the Indian volleyball team in early fifties. He also played for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy and represented the State in the national hockey championship. Bawa Jaswant Singh8217;s cremation was attended by a large number of people which included several sports personalities of the Capital.
