India gain initiative
India had Pakistan on the mat at the end of the second day’s play in the second cricket Test in New Delhi on Friday, after a surprisingly superb bowling display, skittling out the visitors for 172, a first innings lead of 80 for the home side. Having taken the vital lead, India went on to score 46 for the loss of opener V V S Laxman’s wicket.

India thrashed
Playing a commanding game, Pakistan outclassed hosts India by 4-1 in the second hockey Test between the two countries, gaining a 2-0 lead in the nine-match series. Sohail Abbas scored two goals while Mohammad Irfan and Asim scored one goal each. Gagan Ajit Singh scored for the consolation goal for India.

Australia win
England’s premier strike bowler Darren Gough strained a hamstring as Australia cruised to a four-wicket win in their triangular series match in Sydney. Gough left the field midway through Australia’s innings in the day-night game after bowling five overs for 24 runs without taking a wicket.
