Guru Nanak Hockey Tournament

  • The third Guru Nanak Devji Hockey Tournament, sponsored by Punjab amp; Maharashtra Co-operative Bank Ltd, will be held at the Khalsa College ground, Matunga from April 23 to 30. The prominent teams of the city, Tatas, RCF, Customs, Central Railway Mumbai Division, Bombay Republicans, Union Bank will be participating in the tournament which as Rs 25,000 as prize money.
  • The winner of the tournament will get Rs 11,000 while the runners-up will have to be content with Rs 7,000. There are also individual prizes of Rs 1,000 for the best goalkeeper, defender, half-back, forward. There is also a fair-play award of Rs 3,000 for the best behaved team.

    State Kabaddi team for Nationals

  • The Maharashtra State Kabaddi Association has announced its men8217;s and women8217;s teams for the Senior National Kabbadi Championships at Beed from April 22-26.
  • TEAMS Men: Sanjay Suryavanshi, Vijay Ghadigaokar, Ananda Shinde, Vilas Jadhav, DAshrath Shinde, Pratap Shetty,Nilesh Naik, Nitin Khatpe, Sanjay Wadar, Sanjay Mhatre, Sagar Bandekar, Prakash Patil. Coach: Ranapratap Tiwari. Manager: Namdev Patil.

    Women: Gautami Raut, Preeti Desai, Uma Bhosale, Anuradha Bhosale, Mukta Chougule, Vaishali Savant, Roopa Chavan, Trupti Bapat, Bhakti Kulkarni, Veena Khavale, Kranti Dahale, Trupti Shivtharkar. Coach: Bapu Kharmale. Manager: Smita Aragade.

    Day-night cricket put off

  • The proposed Inter-City summer league day-night cricket tournament has been put off by the Mumbai Cricket Association MCA in the interest of cricket and cricketers. The tournament was proposed at a time when there was no domestic of international programme. However, with the annoucement of the Triangular Series involving India, Kenya and Bangladesh, the availibility of leading cricketers woulde be in doubt as they would be exposed to continuous cricket if MCA went ahead with their tournament.
  • Go-karting course in Mumbai

  • JK Tyre, one of the biggest promoter of motor sportsin India, is taking it to the grassroot level, through its close association and support to the Go-karting movement. The long term sponsorship of the Go-karting course in Mumbai is an effort in this direction.
  • This is part of the series of activities by JK Tyre, to build a sound base for motor sport in India, and bring it to the international standards. JK Tyre is hoping to bring sports enthusiasts into the game at an early stage through the Go-karting courses in Delhi and Mumbai and later on in other parts of the country.

    Women snooker from today

  • Bombay Gymkhana will host a prize-money Open snooker tournament exclusively for women from April 21 to 25 for which 19 players from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have sent their entries. The tournament carries total prize money of Rs. 20,000 including the first prize of Rs. 7,000. The other leading players in the fray are Judy Walia, Ashwini Puranik and Anuja Thakur.
