Cricket ratings to pick World XI
Videocon is the latest corporate house to jump into the World Cup bandwagon. The electronics giant have come up with a performance-based ratings system, on the basis of which a World XI would be picked.

The consumer-oriented cricketing bonanza would require a participant to buy a Videocon product between April 1 and May 31 for eligiblity to participate in the contest. Those naming the correct eleven and the captain will get the product purchased absolutely free. That apart, they would also be in contention for the first prize — a Mercedes Benz. The contest will cover matches upto May 30 — that is, 30 of the 42 matches in the World Cup.

A participant has to rate the performances in terms of batting — runs scored, strike rate; bowling — wickets taken, economy rate; fielding — catches, stumpings, direct run outs. Based on this rating system, individual performances will be monitored and a Videocon World XI team selected. Participants would have to pick twoopening batsmen, two middle-order batsmen, three all-rounders, a wicket-keeper and three bowlers. The table will then be regularly updated and published in the media till May 30. The captain will be picked by Ajit Wadekar, who will also be the deciding authority in case of a tie on points between players.

Boosting morale via music
n THE World Cup hysteria is taking on new and greater dimensions, what with every kind of consumer company coming out with something or the other in a bid to pep up the Indian team. The latest is a cassette by BMG-Crescendo, Come On India. With the title song composed and sung by Shankar Mahadevan, the cassette was launched in great style with the entire Indian team present. All of them also feature in the music video of Come On India. Shankar Mahadevan gave a live performance at the ceremonious launch on Friday. Each member of the Indian team, barring Sachin Tendulkar, who could not make it, was presented with a gold bracelet, `a good-luck charm’, as it was called.
