Chess tournament for school students

The Bandra Chess Club will be organising a tournament for school students from December 26 to January 1. The age groups in the event are under-8, under-10, under-12 and the open category. The tournament will be held at the St Stanislaus School, Bandra.

Unlike other tournaments, this will have a separate section for girls with two age groups. The organisers are hopeful of receiving at least 500 entries for the four section in boys and two in girls. The tournament is being sponsored by Parle G.

The tournament will be played over nine rounds on the Swiss League basis and the players will get two hours on the clock after which 15 minutes extra to finish their games.

Open chess tourney from Dec 26

The Kalpataru Samukh will be organising an open chess tournament from December 26 to January 3 at the Kalpataru Samuh Karyalaya. Entry fee isRs 150 and the forms will be registered with Sachin Shinde, Kalpataru Samuh Karyalaya; Shirish Tamhankar or the BCA office, Zandu Pharmaceutical Works Canteen, Sayani Road, opposite Elphinstone Station.

The first prize in the tournament is Rs 4,500 while the best placed women will get a prize of Rs 600.

Annual open athletic meet

Ryan International Sportsclub will organise its first Annual Open Athletics meet from February 1 to 4 at the Andheri Sports Complex. The last date for entries is January 20 and for more information call Shaji Kuttiani 8844593, 8840075.

National taekwondo from Dec 26

The National Taekwondo championship will be held at the RCF Sports Complex from December 26 to 28.

The competition will be held in eight weight categories for men and women each, and the bouts will be held from 4.30p.m. to 9 p.m. on all three days.

The Thane District 5-a-side Open rink football tournament, organised by the Bombay Catholic Sabha Kalyan Unit, will be held at the Lourdes School ground, Kalyan W, on December 26 to 27.
