
A Pakistan Cricket Board appointed drug tribunal has formally chargesheeted bowlers Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif after conducting its first hearing in Lahore.
8220;Both the fast bowlers who tested positive of using performance enhancing drugs were charged with violation of Board8217;s laid down policies against the use of drugs,8221; local daily The News quoted a PCB official as saying.
Noted lawyer Shahid Hamid, along with another member of the committee and former cricketer, Intikhab Alam heard the players separately before handing over the chargesheets.
8220;Both narrated their side of stories separately. They were given the chargesheet and have been asked to submit in writing their report in the next meeting,8221; the official said
However, head of the inquiry committee, Dr. Waqar Ahmad could not attend the meeting yesterday due to cancellation of his flight from Islamabad. The meeting was chaired by Hamid in his absence, the report said.
Hamid declined to give any timeframe for completing the the inquiry. 8220;We will give a fair chance to both the players and then submit our report to the PCB,8221; he said.
The next hearing has been scheduled after the Eid holidays on October 26.
During the hearing, the two players reportedly pleaded their innocence and requested PCB to get their 8216;B8217; samples tested.
