NEW DELHI, JAN 24: Shivani8217;s body was consigned to flames at 4.30 this evening at the Lodhi Crematorium. Mourning colleagues, relatives and friends watched as her husband Rakesh Bhatnagar lit the pyre.

The body of Shivani, a principal correspondent with The Indian Express, who was found murdered at her Patparganj residence on Saturday, was taken to the Lodhi Crematorium in the afternoon. Among the mourners were editors and lawyers who were associated with her.

Earlier in the day, the body was shifted from Apollo Hospital to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences AIIMS for the post-mortem. The body was then taken to the Navkunj Apartment flat of the Bhatnagars, which was overflowing with people come to offer condolences. The visitors included Union Home Minister L K Advani and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Expressing her shock over the gruesome killing of Shivani, Dikshit said, 8220;It is very sad. My heart goes to the family especially her three-month old baby.8221;

Since the incidenthappened inside their apartment, she said it is not a directly reflection on the law and order situation of Delhi. 8220;But I am waiting for the police report. Let that come out first,8221; she added.

An equally shocked Advani said that he hoped the police would be able to solve the case soon. Both Dikshit and Advani laid wreaths on her body. PM Atal Behari Vajpayee expressed 8220;shock and grief over the gruesome murder8221;. Congress president Sonia Gandhi also expressed her grief over the incident and 8220;conveyed her heartfelt condolences to members of the bereaved family8221;.
