
Experts have suggested the Uttar Pradesh government to keep its expressway projects 8212; Ganga, Yamuna and Hindon 8212; on backburner, especially during the ongoing recession.
8220;There should not be any euphoria about the Taj Expressway as there will be negligible inflow of tourists in the area due to market slump,8221; said Suman K Bery, the Director General of New Delhi-based National Council of Applied Economic Research.
Bery was in the city to participate in the annual convention of Lucknow Management Association on Saturday.
The US and the European markets have crashed and India and China should come forward to control fifty per cent of the world economy, he added.
He advised the government to forgo its mega PPP public private partnership projects and concentrate on strengthening the existing export clusters in the state. 8220;As the marketnbsp;continues to slide down, general spending capacity will drop. Sale of cars and vehicles is already facing a nosedive,8221; he added.nbsp;
Pointing at the export potential of UP in goods like agriculture produce, handicraft and electronics, he said while the foreign investment is going down, the government should focus on exports.
The investors also expressed their apprehensions over political instability and absence of work culture in the state.nbsp;
Inaugurating the event, state Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta claimed that the government has been transparent in its functioning. The PPP projects delayed because thenbsp;stakeholders demanded to know the detailed process for the selection of the companies and therefore the government was careful while screening the bidders.
