While short films in Kolkata are exactly not giving the blockbuster at a theatre near you a run for its money, but things are sure to take a turn for the better. The Kalpanirjhar International Short Fiction Film Festival, into its sixth year, has 19 short films from Indian filmmakers this year. 8220;Last time we had just four entries from Indian filmmakers. It8217;s definitely an encouraging trend,8221; says S V Raman of Max Mueller Bhavan, Kolkata.
The film festival organised by the Kalpanirjhar Foundation in association with the Max Mueller Bhavan, Alliance Francaise and American Centre, has seven sections featuring films of varied flavours.
While Short 038; Sweet presents selected animation films from Germany, GenNext features works by students from film schools across India and Germany. Apart from these, there are films from France, Belgium and Netherlands.
8220;Short films are gaining significance in the city with the growing number of film schools and film courses. Aspiring filmmakers have to take the short film route if they want to prove their mettle,8221; adds Raman. So, the Kalpanirjhar Festival is banking on the growing league of young filmmakers and film students to popularize short films in the city.
The festival will be on at the Max Mueller Bhavan from November 1-5
