The AIADMK on Saturday moved the Supreme Court seeking a direction to restrain the DMK and its constituents from enforcing a bandh in Tamil Nadu on October 1 on the Sethusamudram project.

In a special leave petition filed before the apex court through counsel Subramanima Prasad, party’s chairperson E Madhusudhan submitted that the bandh call given by the ruling party and its allies was unconstitutional and violative of the apex court’s directions on the issue.

The petitioner submitted that the bandh was unwarranted as the matter relating to the Sethusamudram project was already pending before the apex court.

The ruling DMK and its allies in the Democratic Peoples Alliance (DPA) have given a call for a statewide bandh on Monday to put pressure on the Central Government to go ahead with the construction of the Sethusamudram project, which had been kept on hold.
