
MUMBAI, JUNE 28: Select pivotals rallied on the Bombay Stock Exchange BSE today, the opening day of the new account, on fresh buying by operators as well as sustained purchases from institutional investors. The Sensex gained 47 points. The closing rates showed widespread small to modest gains.
The BSE sensitive index started better at 4140.24 and gradually moved upwards to the day8217;s high of 4183.16 before closing at 4158.67 with a net gain of 46.90 points compared to last Friday8217;s close of 4111.77. The BSE-100 index also advanced by 25.03 points to 1794.92 from previous close of 1769.89.
Brokers said the sentiment was boosted on speculative support following the start of the new account. The domestic institutions were making purchases in software scrips in a bid to push up the prices of the net asset value NAV of their funds ahead of the June-end. FIIs have been reportedly net buyers in multinational scrips like Hindustan Lever, Britania, Procter amp; Gamble, Parke Davis besides low-priced sidestocks.
Of the 148 traded specified scrips, 119 registered moderate to smart gains while 25 declined with four unchanged. 15 cyclical scrips from A-group closed at the day8217;s best level after exhausting the day8217;s permissible price limit.
Pentafour Software clocked the highest turnover of Rs 186.53 crore of the total volume of business of Rs 1375.80 crore substantially down from Rs 1680.34 crore posted on last Friday. Pentafour Software shot up by Rs 44.90 to Rs 1130. Satyam Computer rose by Rs 41 to Rs 1268, Reliance by Rs 1.85 to Rs 179, Ranbaxy by Rs 23.05 to Rs 676.55, Hindustan Lever by Rs 60.25 to Rs 2351, ITC by Rs 6.20 to Rs 1080.30, Telco by Rs 2 to Rs 211.50 and Tisco 30 P to Rs 139.80. SBI, however, declined by Rs 2.75 to Rs 235.75 and Larsen by Rs 8.30 to Rs 287.50.
