On Saturday morning, the 45-year-old editor of Marathi eveninger Aple Mahanagar received a visit from activists of the Shiv Sena. It8217;s one he8217;s unlikely to forget. Wagle was having breakfast with two fellow journalists, Yuvraj Mohite and Pramod Nirgudkar, in the canteen of Sevangan, a local non-governmental organisation in Sena Leader Narayan Rane8217;s hometime of Malwan, when he was attacked.

The only thing they asked was why was I speaking against former chief minister Narayan Rane,8217;8217; Wagle said. 8216;8216;It looks like they wanted to burn me. I was soaked in kerosene-like oil and they could have easily burned me. An 80-year-old lady shielded me.8221;
Minister of State for Home Kripashankar Singh said the Sindhdurg police have arrested two men for the assault on Wagle. Sena leader Narayan Rane said: 8216;8216;I have nothing to do with the attack on Wagle. I didn8217;t even know he was here.8221;
