Seminar on concept of Lok Adalats

PATIALA, July 2: People must come forward to adopt the concept of Lok Adalats because they help save time, money and harassment in sorting out problems. This was asserted by District and Sessions Judge K.S. Garewal while addressing a seminar organised by the District Legal Services Authority here yesterday.

The Seminar aimed to educate the panches, sarpanches, nambardara, municipal commissioners and the needy people about the advantages of Lok Adalats where problems could be solved without spending large sums of money and without the aid of a lawyer. He said Lok Adalats will help sort out problems through the mutual consent of the affected parties and the decision given by these Adalats would be binding on both the parties involved.

Except civil suits, all other cases can be brought before the Lok Adalats. He said the suits pending in any court may also be brought before the Lok Adalat for grant of early relief. Till date 34 Lok Adalats have been organised, he said and out of the 286 cases brought before it, 56 have been settled.
