BANGALORE, April 27: Second-seeded Archana Venkatraman outclassed Praveeni Sreenivasan as all seeded players kept their reputation intact moving into the second round with a 6-0, 6-1 in just 45 minutes, while her sister and fourth seed Arathi Venkatraman came back from a set down to outplay Rahda Devendrappa 4-6, 6-1 6-0.

Top seed Sai Jayalakshmy, third seed Russian Anna Nefedova, and sixth seed Shruthi Dhawan have already advanced with easy first round victories on the opening day yesterday.

Unperturbed by the first set loss, Arathi fought back and executed some fine forehand winners before taking the second set. In the decider, Arathi never allowed her rival to settle and wrapped up the match, which lasted 95 minutes.

In another first round encounter, fifth seed Rushmi Chakravarthi defeated Sandhya Kanury 6-2, 6-2. In other matches, Sumithra Rao outclassed Rani Simmi 6-2, 6-4, while Sonal Phadke defeated Janaki Krishnamurthy 7-6 7-2, 6-1.

Oindrilla Mazumdar beat Tara Kambargimath 6-3, 6-1, whileRadhika Tulpule thrashed Smit Stuti 6-0, 6-0 and Geetha Manohar defeated Padma Mahalingam 6-0, 6-1.

In the doubles section, fourth seed pair of Gautham Sheethal and Shruthi Dhawan outclassed Preethi Rao and Sonal Phadke 6-2, 6-4 in an hour while Sandhya Kanury and Geetha Manohar beat Raje Kalpita and Sricharanya Thiagarajan 6-1, 6-4.
