Haryana leggie Amit Mishra celebrated his Test debut with a five-for as India spared Australia the humiliation of following on only to tighten the noose around their neck on day three of the second cricket match.

Mishra emerged as the wrecker-in-chief as India shot out Australia for 268, carving out a 201-run first innings lead.

Despite having the Aussies at his mercy, stand-in skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni refused to enforce follow-on, deciding instead to set them a target and unleash the two-pronged spin attack on a wearing track.

India added exactly 100 runs without any loss in the final session to stretch their overall lead to 301 and openers Virender Sehwag 53 and Gautam Gambhir 46 will return on Monday to further swell the tally and take the match away from Australia.

With no real sting or firepower in the Australian attack, Sehwag and Gambhir gave India a rollicking start in the second innings, finding boundaries with consummate ease and running hard between the wickets as well.

Sehwag was both fluent and fierce while Gambhir matched his Delhi captain8217;s aggression shot for shot. The right-left combination never allowed the Australian pacers to settle into any rhythm and they scored at a four-plus run rate.

Meanwhile, Mishra8217;s sensational debut is sure to create dilemma for the selectors, who would have to find a way to accommodate Anil Kumble in the side for the third Test after the regular skipper recovers from his shoulder injury.
