The Luiz Felipe Scolari era ended without a major title for Portugal on Thursday. Scolari had announced last week he will join Chelsea after Euro 2008, but he was hoping to extend his stint with Portugal for at least another two matches and win a championship.

Scolari leaves without being able to give the Portuguese their first major title despite quickly developing the team into a top contender in European football since arriving more than five years ago. 8220;I did my best, like always,8221; Scolari said. 8220;I did what I could and the players did the same.8221;

Chelsea lacked respect for Portugal when they announced Luiz Felipe Scolari as their new coach in the middle of Euro, Gilberto Madail, the president of the Portuguese football federation said Friday.
