Ever wondered how galaxies merge, black holes bring stars off course and the brain creates music? Now, clear all your doubts on a moving train.
The Department of Science and Technology DST in collaboration with the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science in Germany, is bringing the famed Science Tunnel Exhibition to India for the first time, that too on a train. The Science Express will be flagged off by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel from here on October 30 and will travel to 57 cities across the country over the next nine months. The exhibition has earlier travelled to Tokyo, Singapore, Shanghai and Dresden.
8220;The purpose is to inculcate scientific temper among students and spot talent along the way. The train will halt for three days at each station,8221; said Anuj Sinha, a DST scientist.
The express will have nine coaches dedicated to major scientific achievements in the areas of natural and life sciences, more than 300 large-format images and over 150 video clips from current research projects, apart from a chemistry lab developed by the BASF chemical company for students.
Apart from the 15 collaborating agencies, the exhibition is also being supported by the Indian Railways which has reserved a platform for the train in cities it would to travel to. 8220;First, we travel north. We are working through voluntary organisations to advertise the exhibition,8221; said Sinha.
