The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to hear the plea of Janta Party President Subramaniam Swamy seeking reconstitution of the 8216;Committee of Eminent Persons8217; constituted by the Centre to review the Sethusamudram Project.
A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan said since the court had no role in the appointment of the committee, it would not in any way interfere with it. However, the Bench said Swamy could file his objections once the committee submitted its report.
Responding to Swamy8217;s contention that the committee, which is going to commence its proceeding from October 29, is not providing him the necessary documents and that it was going back on its promise, the Bench told him to file his objections before the committee and added that no such assurance was given to the court.
Swamy filed an interlocutory application on Tuesday saying that the committee constituted on October 5 to examine various issues related to Sethusamudram Project could not be trusted with an objective assessment as some of its members had biased views.
