Sania Mirza8217;s miserable form continued as the Indian made a first round exit in the doubles competition at the WTA Bank of the West Classic, a day after her sinlges loss.
Sania and her Russian partner Anna Chakvetadze were brushed aside by unheralded Czech pair of Eva Hrdinova and Vladimira Uhlirova 6-3, 6-4 in the 600,000 event.
Sania had earlier crashed out of the singles event with a straight-set defeat at the hands of British qualifier Anne Keothavong.
Meanwhile, top-seeded Serena Williams rallied from one set down to beat hard-hitting teenager Michelle Larcher de Brito of Portugal 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round.
Williams looked completely out of sync for much of the match. Against a 15-year-old qualifier no less.
Williams, playing her first match since losing the Wimbledon final to big sister Venus, committed eight unforced errors in the initial 12 points. Larcher de Brito slipped and hit a backhand into the net on match point and Williams came around the net to shake hands. 8220;I think if she plays the way she did against me, she8217;ll be a great player,8221; Williams said.
