In the wake of terror attacks in Mumbai, the railway authorities have enhanced security of the Samjhauta Express, the only rail link between India and Pakistan, and are conducting rigorous security checks.
At least 500 passengers were fined for carrying more luggage than the prescribed load during a search operation. Meanwhile, Pakistan, in an attempt to express solidarity with India and to tell that it too has faced terrorism, has placed pictures of its former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in Amritsar-Lahore and Amritsar-Nankana Sahib buses.
The Railways has constituted two special teams, headed by Divisional Commercial Manager M S Bhullar, for checking the belongings of passengers. Sources said in an over 15-hour search operation at Attari railway station held a couple of days ago, more than 300 passengers bound for Lahore from Delhi and over 200 coming from Pakistan were fined for carrying excess baggage. Sources said the authorities concerned collected over Rs 1-lakh fine from the passengers.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Ferozepur Division Dharmendra Kumar said those
