MUMBAI, April 30: Alleged killers of trade unionist Dr Datta Samant, encouraged by the cool treatment received by TADA detenues in city jails, are now demanding “special treatment” on medical grounds.
In an application moved before the chief metropolitan magistrate at the Esplanade Court on Tuesday, notorious ganglord Chhota Rajan’s sharpshooter, Ganpat Bamne and gangster Guru Satam’s top aide Raju Baje have demanded special privileges. The applications were dismissed by the magistrate in the 19th court.
While Guru Satam’s top sharpshooter Bamne involved in Dr Samant’s killing has requested that he be allowed home food. Satam’s close aide and the mastermind behind the killing of Datta Samant , Raju Baje, has claimed that he was stricken with a serious health problem which needs immediate medical attention.
According to the application moved on Tuesday afternoon, Baje claimed that he has peripheral vascular circulation problem in which the blood supply to both his legs has become very slow. As a result he was unable to walk and some doctors at the J J hospital had advised him to seek treatment specifically at N M Medical centre in the city, as operations and tests will not be possible elsewhere.
Senior crime branch officers told Express Newsline that undertrials in police remand often use medical grounds as a ploy to escape the hardships. They prefer treatment at some nursing home or police hospital, where the conditions are better.
Meanwhile, nine persons arrested in connection with the January 16 killing of Dr Datta Samant, have been issued summons to be produced before a metropolitan court on May 13. The additional metropolitan magistrate V P Tawre yesterday issued orders to this effect to the accused Arun Lande, Vijay Thopte, Prakash Sawant, Bhagwat Thakur, Raju Vaze, Ganpat Bamne, Ramesh Patil, Sanjay Deokar and Ashok Satardekar.
