Sahayog Awards presented

May 7: The photo editor of The Indian Express Mukesh Parpiani was presented this year8217;s Sahayog Award for photo journalism at a function held in Bandra yesterday.

About 30 eminent personalities from various walks of life were honoured for contributions in their respective fields. S Sheshadri, an expert in Carnatic music, bagged the award for the promotion of art and culture. Sheshadri is also Sreekrishna Gana Sabha8217;s founder member, which boasts of more than 1,000 members all over the world. He has also been appointed as a Special Executive Magistrate by the state government.

Tejendra Sharma, an A-I peruser, was declared the Yuva Sahityakar8217; , while Dr K C Mohanty, who works for the eradication of tuberculosis, won the award for medicine. National badminton player Rajiv Bagga was declared the best sportsman of the year. Music director Kalyanji and BJP ideologue K R Malkani were given special awards while Shabana Azmi won an award for her contribution towards the society. The awards ceremony wasattended by filmstars like Sunil Dutt, Asha Parekh and Subhash Ghai.
