The founder and former head of Pakistan8217;s Lashkar-e-Toiba LeT pledged to keep 8220;spreading the message of Allah8221; after he was freed from detention, his spokesman said.
Hafeez Mohammad Saeed was today released after spending about two months in preventive detention on the orders of a Pakistani court.
Saeed was released in Lahore in the early hours today, his lawyer said. The head of self-proclaimed NGO Jamaat-ud-Dawa JuD was arrested on August 9.
Lahore High Court Judge Justice Akhter Shabbir yesterday ordered his release ignoring the Pakistan Government8217;s argument that Saeed8217;s 8220;increased activities8221; could 8220;hurt8221; relations with neighbouring countries.
Supporters chanted 8220;God is great8221; after Saeed left a guest house where he had been held in Sehkhupura, near Lahore, said Yahya Mujahid, a spokesman of JuD. He quoted Saeed as telling supporters after his release: 8220;Detention and arrest cannot stop me from spreading the message of Allah.8221;
LeT and JuD are both on the US watch list of terrorist organisations but Pakistan has refused to ban the latter.
