
In a setback to beleaguered Anirudh Prasad alias Sadhu Yadav, RJD MP and brother-in-law of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, a special court today dismissed his application for anticipatory bail in connection with the multi-crore rupees flood relief scam.
In-charge Vigilance Judge R N Sharma rejected the petition after hearing Janardan Rai, counsel of Sadhu Yadav, and P P Singh, standing counsel of State Vigilance Bureau.
The RJD MP and eight others were chargesheeted by the Vigilance Bureau in connection with the scam on April 10.
Sadhu Yadav has been charged with having received 8220;slush money8221; from Santosh Kumar Jha, alleged kingpin of the scam and supplier of relief materials, from whose account Rs 6 lakh was transferred to his account with the Secretariat branch of the State Bank of India.
The chargesheet has been filed under various sections of Indian Penal Code dealing with 8216;criminal breach of trust8217;, 8217;criminal breach of trust by a public servant, or by banker, merchant or agent8217;, 8216;fraud8217;, among others and under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
In a reprieve to the MP, the Delhi High Court had yesterday stayed till April 24, the arrest of Sadhu Yadav. Justice Badar Durez Ahmed of the court had, while granting Yadav8217;s plea for anticipatory bail, issued notices to the Delhi and Bihar governments to file their replies and posted the matter for further hearing on April 24.
The Delhi High Court also ordered that in the event of Yadav8217;s arrest, he shall be forthwith released on a personal bond of Rs 50,000.
