MUMBAI, MARCH 9: Saboo Siddik defeated Thadomal Shahani 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the Inter-Engineering Football Tournament organised by Thadona Shahani Engineering College (Bandra) and played at the St Xavier’s Ground Parel, today.

Swapnil Salvi set up the first goal for Saboo when he laid a through ball for Vidyathan Bhave. And Bhave placed it neatly. Pal Suprakash added the second to the tally when Shaikh Irfan had set up one for him. Suprakash added another five minutes before the final whistle.

Vasanth Dada Patil got past CRCE through tie-breaker 5-4. Ashish Shah, Vijay Raghunath, Jayesh Dave, Pravin Rasquinha and Jonas Britto scored for Vasantdada while Jim Malarkal, Partha Khot, Amit Lopes and Aldrin D’Almeida scored for CRCE.

In another match, Vesit got better of Shah Anchor 4-0. Manish Solanki scored a hat-trick for Vesit while Jeetu Krishnan scored the fourth.

RAIT beat Sardar Patel 4-1 in another match. George K scored a brace for the winners while Lucas Natraj and Jayesh Lakshman scored a goal each for RAJT. Sameer Nigam reduced the margin for the losers.

India blue lead

India Blue led the pack of nine teams with 122 VPS at the end of the seven rounds on the opening day of the selection trials to pick the Indian Bridge team for the Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East (B Frame) championships conducted by the Mumbai Sports and Bridge Association at the Central Railway Auditorium today.

India Blue were followed by National Champs with 119 while Well Knit (Madras) had 115 VPS to their credit. Sunil Macher with 114 was fourth.
