Rs 85-lakh jewellery heist at Khar

A gang of four robbers looted cash and jewellery worth approximately Rs 85 lakh from a jewellery shop located in Khar on Sunday morning.

The shop- Dinesh Jewellers- is in the Khardanda area in Khar and according to the Khar police where a case of robbery has been registered, it is usually closed on Sundays. Senior police inspector Ajit Sawant from the Khar police station said, 8220;However, on some Sundays, the shop is open in the morning for some time and this was the time when the robbery took place.8221; As per the statement given by the owner of the shop, Pankaj Jagawat, the robbery took place at 10 am. At the time of the incident Pankaj and his nephew were inside the shop and there was a security guard as well. 8220;The security guard had gone to fill his bottle when two men, posing as customers, entered the shop. While we were dealing with them, the two other men also barged into the shop with guns and threatened us,8221; said Jagawat. After immobilizing them, the four snatched the keys to the lockers where the jewellery was stored and fled with cash and jewellery worth an approximate value of Rs 85 lakh.

8220;The men were in the age group of 38-40 years and were dressed reasonably well. With their short sleeved shirts and haircuts, we initially thought of them as police officials before they started pulling out guns. As our security guard is not provided with a weapon, he was helpless,8221; said Jagawat. He added that the shop is not equipped with CCTV cameras.

8220;Based on the description provided by Jagawat, we are drawing sketches of the four men and shall be circulating them so as to narrow down on them and identify the robbers,8221; said Sawant.
