NAGPUR, FEB 10: The Department of Central Excise and Customs, Nagpur division, has detected excise evasion worth Rs 1 crore and booked 11 companies under various sections in Vidarbha between January 1 and February 7.

According to Central Excise Commissioner K C Singh, the department was silent because of launching of the Kar Samadhan scheme by Finance Ministry. After the conclusion of the scheme on December 31, the department took action and booked 11 companies for duty evasion.

Excise duty realisation worth Rs 4 lakh was done by the department from the companies, he said adding that out of the 11 companies, duty evasion of Rs 35 lakh was detected only from one company.

Total revenue collection by the department was Rs 506 crore till January 31 last year, Singh said. This year, the revenue collection has gone up and touched Rs 562 crore. “We are expecting a further hike in revenue collection. The rise in the revenue is only because of hard work of our staff,” he said adding that the duty evasion detection drive would continue in future too.
