ROOPNAGAR, May 31: Listing of minors as voters has kicked up a controversy here as the district administration is gearing up for the panchayat polls ahead. A case in point is that of Dugri village near here, where at least 10 minor students have been 8220;wrongfully8221; listed among the voters.
Sources revealed that the names of 10 students in the age groups of 16 and 17 of the Government High School, Dugri, figured in the voters8217; list. Though the rules do not permit voting right to a person below 18 years of age, the voters8217; list has the name of Baldev Kaur 17 of the same school.
He further said that an inquiry had already been entrusted to the block development officer of the area to fix accountability for this error.
District Congress Committee general secretary Jagjit Singh Jagga is apprehensive of 8220;partisan8221; approach of the administration, which, he said, was acting at the behest of the ruling party.
To substantiate his claim, Jagga presented before this correspondent two separate lists of voters of Chairman and Dugri villages, in which the names of 10 voters figured at both the places.
