Fashion force

Last Monday, the Fashion Bistro amp; Cafe held a small but well-attended fashion show. Choreographed by Sangeeta Chopra, the ramp had Marc Robinson, Achla Sachdev and Diandra Soares wearing the designs of Shaina NC, Lascelles Symons, Bhamini Subramanium and Rocky S. A good selection, as both Lascelles and Rocky are designers in demand.

Rocky is Shopper8217;s Stop designer of the month and Lascelles is busy with film star Anil Kapoor8217;s wardrobe. Soaking in the couture were industrialist Gautam Singhania and model Aparna Sharma.

The Fashion Bistro was in the news last fortnight for raising Mumbai8217;s Thought Police8217;s shackles with their quot;femalequot; chair, and these promotional blitzes seem to be their way of erasing the past. So, it came as no surprise when it was indicated that these shows may become monthly events. The Bistro is also planning special nights where designers like Rocky will be available to answer queries on fashion. The Bistro is also trying to tie-up with models and get thembehind the bar for a night.

Face it

The make-up for this show was done by model and make-up artist Michelle Tung and her assistant Lisa. The two of them, it is rumoured, are getting into the cosmetics business in a big way and are planning to open their own store near Crawford Market. A wise brand extension. Michelle is one of the most popular make-up artists in town she did the Shahab Durazi show and her client list includes Tanya Godrej.

Clubbing it

Michelle and Lisa, it seems, had a busy week. They were spotted on Wednesday at the opening of a new disco, Twice As Nice, at Prabhadevi. They were kept company by most of Mumbai8217;s models who love to flock to new clubs. The city has an endless capacity to swallow up watering holes, and over the weekend every night spot is still packed to the gills. Not that it stops clubs from holding special events. Copa Cabana still the busiest club in town is planning a special Cathedral night, starting next month. Entry will be restricted to alumnifrom this prestigious school and instead of the normal Latin American music, there will only be live music. So, once a month on Thursdays, these former classmates will be able to catch up on what the other has been up to. What boggles the mind here though is the fact that these people already live in each other8217;s pockets, so, what will they talk about?

Fond farewell

On Friday night, the pub that caught the fancy of Madhu Sapre was Geoffrey8217;s in South Mumbai. This super model was there with Andrew Carnegie and Suchitra Pillai, catching a quick drink before they crossed the road to Tom Dylan8217;s farewell bash at the Oberoi. This was the week8217;s most happening party. Having been with Colgate Palmolive for over two years, Tom is now being transferred to New York. In this short time span, he seems to have become quite a favourite with our glamour girls. Namrata Shirodkar and Sheetal Malhar were also there to bid him adieu.

London calling

Story continues below this ad

Other than this bash, the city is reeling under thesweltering heat and most people are off on long holidays. As always, London remains a favourite destination. One glam gal who is presently there is Ooh La La8217;s Neelam. She is making the most of her break, as when she comes back, a flurry of work is going to take over her life. Besides her TV show, she will start shooting for Sooraj Barjatya8217;s new film. She will also be making her debut in the world of business. Neelam8217;s family has been in the jewellery business for many years and even though she always helped out, Neelam now gets into design on a professional basis. But all that after a well-deserved break.

Getting ready

Kareena Kapoor seems to be getting all geared up for her debut in the film world. She was spotted with her mom Babita who will be managing her career the same way she did her elder daughter Karisma8217;s having a lazy Saturday afternoon lunch at China Garden with fashion designer, Manish Malhotra. Manish is the man responsible for revamping Karisma8217;s image in Raja Hindustani andperhaps now Babita is hoping that he will work the same magic on Karina, who is making her debut in Rakesh Roshan8217;s new film opposite his son, Hrithik.

And finally8230;

Remember the fanfare with which the boutique Envy opened its shutters? There was a fashion show with Noyonika Chatterjee and Rajalakshmi Soni strutting down the ramp in Versace and Iceberg creations. For more glamour, it was announced that the store8217;s ambassadress would be Mamta Raja Merchant, wife of Aseem Merchant who was handling the store8217;s public relations. Anyway, that project turned out to be pure hype the store has shut down just a month after its opening. Legal reasons are being cited. Shouldn8217;t people take care of these things in advance?
