Capital walk
A fashion show without a touch of Mumbai would be incomplete, or so think designers. Rohit Bal8217;s fashion show in Delhi, held this Friday, had four Mumbai-based models dominating the ramp. Held at the American ambassador Richard Celeste8217;s home, Nina Manuel, Sheetal Malhar, Helen Brodie and Namrata Barua represented the country8217;s couture capital. Where were the Delhi models? Is the city so devoid of fashion professionals that it needs to turn to Mumbai for a touch of class? Anyway, what is evident is that Delhi8217;s choreographers need a little help when it comes to organising a show. The event started late and most of the clothes arrived just before the lights came on. The clothes were vintage Gudda though 8212; his spring collection had lots of chiffon and bright colours. The audience greeted it with lots of oohing and ahhing!
Model moves
But really saying that Delhi has no models is unfair. Even Mumbai has no models 8212; as of now, that is. Starting this weekend, all the top babesaccompanied Hemant Trivedi to Dubai for a mega fashion show. He was kept company by Tarun Tahiliani and Ritu Beri 8212; both designers also held showings over the weekend.
But most of them charged back to Mumbai for another mega event. The Levi8217;s show 8212; on tonight 8212; has been choreographed by Marc Robinson and promises to be different. Says Marc, quot;I hope this event will be something new as I will be using a lot of dancers this time on the catwalk.quot; We hope it8217;s different because there are so many fashion shows, it8217;s just becoming a drag.
Bacardi blast
There have been a host of Bacardi nights in the city, over the past week but now watch out for a heady mix. The white rum makers have tied up with Coke and are bringing Diana Say a little prayer8216; King to Mumbai. Next week on Tuesday she will perform at an as yet undisclosed location, and you can bet this event will be the highlight of next week8217;s entertainment. During the summer months not much really happens and the city8217;s restless arestarved for anything new.
Make a wish
The Make a Wish foundation will celebrate its annual wish day at the Turf Club, next week. A first for the organisation, a star-studded charity dinner has been planned. The MC for the night is Shekhar Suman and Louis Banks will be performing. But before that Milind Soman and Lymaraina D8217;Souza will be at the China Garden restaurant today, promoting the wish ribbon band. This band costs Re one and all proceeds will go to the charity. And before next week, the foundation hopes to granted 200 wishes to terminally ill children.
Club charts
It may be hot in the city but the rivalry between the nightclubs seem to be sending the mercury zooming. This week8217;s rating keeps Copa Cabana at the top spot with celebs like Andrew Carnegie, Marc Robinson and Suchitra Pillai favouring this waterhole. The number two position goes to the Fashion Cafe as it seems to be getting a fair share of glamour. On Saturday, for instance, spotted there were Aseem and Mamta Merchant,Arjun Khanna, Sanjay Kapoor and Atul Agnihotri. Geoffrey8217;s shares the second spot and is favoured by the more mature. Spotted there on Friday was Anuradha Mahindra having what appeared to be a business conversation.
Go Gulf
Talking about Arjun Khanna, this fashion designer seemed to be on a real high 8212; work related not spirit related 8212; last week. Mumbai8217;s party people could be spotted wearing Khanna originals to bars and clubs. And now Arjun hopes to look outward. He is currently preparing for a show in Dubai, which will take place early next month. After the show, there will be an exhibition of his latest designs.
And finally8230;
RAJIV Kapoor in case the name doesn8217;t ring a bell, he is Rishi8217;s younger brother seems to be a sad man. He was drowning his sorrows at Razzabery Rhinoceros, last Friday. Dressed in shorts and a T-shirt, he was so drunk that he needed to prop himself up against the bar counter. If anyone approached him, he withered them away with a killing glare.
