Deputy Chief Election Commissioner R Bhattacharya on Monday directed the Returning Officers ROs to take action against all voters who have registered their names from two different constituencies. During a meeting held in Shillong, Bhattacharya told Chief Electoral Officer P Naik and the four ROs to take immediate action on the matter.

RO of East Khasi Hills B Dhar said there are multiple instances to show that a voter registers his name from two different places. Dhar said: 8220;This is a punishable offence and we will take action.8221; He added that all Government officials, who have moved from one state to another, must get his name deleted from the earlier place of posting before getting it registered in the new one.

Bhattacharya will head for Tura on Tuesday where he will hold a similar meeting with three ROs of West, East and South Garo hill districts.
