Milan, April 17: Inter Milan’s Brazilian striker Ronaldo has said that he was just plain unlucky to have torn a tendon in his comeback match last week and cleared his doctors of all blame.

Doubts have been raised in the Italian press about the way Ronaldo’s return to football was handled by his medical advisors. But, Ronaldo brushed aside the rumours in comments made yesterday in Paris and passed on by Inter Milan spokesman Sandro Sabatini, after a question and answer session with the hospital-bound Brazilian striker.

Asked if he’d Blamed anyone or anything after his injury, Ronaldo said: “I’ve blamed no-one. I’ve just cursed my bad luck.”

Ronaldo meanwhile denied that he’d ever felt a victim of his success and been weighed down by the expectations of the fans. “To be a player who represents something is an honour for me,” he said. “And I’ve never felt a victim of my role.”

But he added: “Certainly, I completely agree with what (Michel) Platini has said on the need to reform the (footballing) calendar. But I’ve never hurt myself as a result of this way of playing the game.”

Ronaldo said he would not change his approach to a prolonged period of rehabilitation for the second time around.

“Like before, I’ll follow to the letter the programme set down by the doctors and the physiotherapists,” he said. “I’ll have great faith in that, and the certainty that they didn’t make any mistakes before.

“I live football in a way that’s serene, happy and calm. And there’s no need to change that.”

Asked if he thought he would like to expand his family over the next year, following the birth 10 days ago of a son, Ronald, the Brazilian said: “Milene and I are planning to have another child.

“But not straight away, perhaps in a year and a half.”
