Farhan Akhtar now dons the hat of a television anchor and, if all goes well, hopes to start his own rock band soon

Director, actor, singer and now a television show anchor. Why did Oye8230; It8217;s Friday appeal to you?
The show is going to be different and will have mass appeal. It is a first time attempt on Indian television to include talents from various fields on such a large scale.

You have been a reality show judge on television earlier.
But Oye8230; is a completely different experience. This show will have singing, dancing, gags with cutting-edge humour and mimicry. I8217;m the host of the show, but I would rather term myself as the master of ceremony because I will be interacting both with the viewers and the guests on the show.

How have you been preparing for your new role on television?
As compared to acting in a film, the requirements here are different. It is important to be yourself and be comfortable with your personality. You are not playing a neatly etched out character here. I am just trying to be spontaneous on the show. If I am not at ease, my guests will not be either.

What appeals to you about reality television?
In my mind, I do not categorise television programmes as reality or non-reality. For me it is wholesome entertainment and this is what Oye8230; is going to be.

You are being pitched for the best actor award for Rock On.
I haven8217;t really thought of it. Such things are best left unspoken until the D-day. I will be happy if I get it or else I will work harder this year.

nbsp;

Did you ever imagine that Rock On would be so successful?
We knew we had made a clean and nice entertainer and in those terms we had pre-empted its success. But I did not think it would change so many people8217;s lives by helping them realise their dreams. The additional success came from its positive effect on many youngsters.

Would you like to form your own rock band some day?
I wouldn8217;t rule that out. If ever there was a desire in me to be a part of a music band it8217;s now. But it will take a while before I set up my own band because of lack of time.

nbsp;

With The Beatles turning 40 this month, do you see this milestone as an inspiration for another movie on rock bands?
I am a huge Beatles fan. But right now, I8217;m definitely not working on another rock band movie. My plate is full and I cannot think of new projects at the moment.nbsp;

What8217;s happening with Don 2?
It is going to be my next directorial venture. I begin shooting for it in October 2009. For now I8217;m busy with my acting assignments.

nbsp;

What8217;s your next release?
I have Zoya Akhtar8217;s Luck By Chance which releases early next year. It has a very interesting entourage of actors like Konkona Sen Sharma, Rishi Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Dimple Kapadia and Juhi Chawla. I have another release in April.

The show premieres December 12 on NDTV Imagine.
