NEW DELHI, July 23: Five men robbed a property dealer8217;s Zakir Nagar house in South Delhi and decamped with 3.5 kg of gold jewellery and cash amounting to Rs 9 lakh this afternoon. They held the family hostage for almost three hours while they went about ransacking the house.

The assailants entered the house through the main gate which was latched but which they apparently opened through the grill. As the front door of the house was open, the miscreants gained access to the house at around 12 noon.

Mohd Rafique8217;s wife and son were at home. The miscreants demanded the jewellery that 37-year-old Sahrudnissa was wearing at gun-point. Then, one of them asked her to give them all the cash in the house. When she refused, they gagged and locked up the two in a room. Then the assailants ransacked the bedroom and broke open the locker which contained 3.5 kg of gold jewellery. They also took the cash that they found in the cabinet in the bedroom.

Around 1 p.m., when the five assailants were in the house, Rafique8217;s daughters Sabreen, 13, and Tabussum, 12, came back from school. They were also tied up and locked along with the others. The dacoits left the house with the booty at around 3 p.m.

The property dealer reportedly has a past criminal record and has been involved in cases of robbery, kidnapping and the Arms Act. Rafique claims that he has a business rivalry with three persons in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and suspects their involvement in the crime. A case has been registered at the Okhla police station.
