Rickshaw strike

SATARA, Sept 18: About 4000 autorickshaws in the city went on a one-day strike today to press for their demands. Four unions 8212; District Autorickshaw Association, Ajinkya Autorickshaw Union, Maharashtra Autorickshaw Sena and Jaihind Autorickshaw Union had called for the strike.

The drivers marched to the collectorate where they submitted a memorandum to the collector and staged a dharna. Their demands include that uniforms should not be made compulsory, charging passengers one and half times the rate outside the city limits, rounding up of the fare, uniform transport code throughout the State, road repairs and the police desist from unnecessary harassment.
